Playdate with the Crigers!

Yesterday Aaron and I ventured out with Amy, Jude, and Asher to the Great Mall for a play date!  Aaron had so much fun running around with Jude.  I didn't know he was such a climber!  These were taken from my phone so they aren't the best quality but you get the idea.  We played, then walked around, played some more, ate pizza for lunch, then walked around some more.  What a fun morning!  Can't wait to do it again.

This post is really more for memory sake that will later be bound in a book than for anyone else.  Last night as Aaron and I were hanging out at H-Town, Rebecca noticed that Aaron was able to go up and down the stairs by himself.

She says, "Look, Aaron can go down the stairs!  He is so big.  Does he still nurse?"

"Not anymore," I respond with a sort of sad face.

"Why not?  Well what does he drink then?"

"He drinks water and milk and sometimes juice."

"What kind of milk?"

"Regular milk from the store."

"So he doesn't come to you to nurse when he's thirsty anymore?"

"Nope, he's a big boy now and drinks from a cup."

I thought there would be this day that I would be able to record as THE day Aaron was weaned.  But it happened so gradually that I'm not even sure when the last time he nursed was.  It may have been weeks ago!  So this post is simply to say that Aaron is now officially weaned.  He nursed through the first 13 months of his life.  I'm glad we were able to do so for that long!  He IS a big boy now and going to be a big brother soon!

Beef please!

No - I can't get enough beef!  I woke up yesterday, rolled over to John and said (at 7:15 in the morning), "can you please make steak for dinner tonight?"  It was in my dreams all night and I was almost salivating by morning.  So like a good hubby, he donned his grill apron, grabbed the boy, and went outside to grill for dinner last night.  It was DELISH!  He is getting soooo good at making steak. He made three KC strips (we usually only make 2) and though Aaron ate some of the third, I ate the rest PLUS my own!  No leftovers for us!  I could care less about the baked potato, corn, and bread - just wanted the steak!

The Little Apple

What a day!  Today we took a trip down to Tuttle Creek to four wheel with a Jeep Club.  We had a great time despite the hot weather!  Here are some great pics from our adventures.  This was my first time out with John and I have to say there were some pretty intense moments but all in all it was a blast!

After our mud and rock adventures we hit up Manhattan and visited Katie at her dorm.  She took us to her new sorority house, Alpha Chi Omega, and gave us a mini tour, then it was off to Gumby's to devour some pizza.

We had a great and tiring day!  I missed my little man sooooo much though - he had a blast hanging with Grandma and Grandpa all day.

Ready for Fall

Dear Fall,

Please come soon.  I am ready for your beautiful leaves and cooler weather.  I want to take my toddler outside and not sweat off all the water I've consumed for a week.  The temperature today is just a tease.  I cannot wait for the first frost to get rid of the abundance of bugs that have taken up residence in my back yard.  I'm looking forward to pumpkin patches, Apple Cider at the Louisburg Cider Mill, sweaters, dinners on my back porch, and snuggling next to a fire.  Summer, it's been great but I'm ready for my good friend Fall to come.

Yours truly,
Hot Mama

The Beach

In Kansas the closest thing to a "beach" is a dirty mud/sand mix beside a small reservoir of water known as a lake.  Now don't get me wrong - I love the lake...like the middle of the lake or maybe off the dock...at Tablerock where the water is mostly clear...  No really - it was fun watching Aaron play in the sand and sometimes mud yesterday at the little beach we went to.  I just can't wait to take him to a REAL beach where there's waves, and a salty breeze, and a beautiful sunset...

All in all, Aaron didn't mind - he had a great first experience with that stuff called sand. : )

Yes. I'm Pregnant.

Today marks the first day that a stranger noticed I was pregnant this time around.  I'm officially 12 weeks today so I guess it's as good a time as ever although I'm not sure if it was really baby they were seeing, or the plate of tacos I had just scarfed.

Either way, it's kind of fun for someone to ask when I am due.  Just glad I really am...

Go AWAY diaper rash!

For weeks now Aaron has had a mysterious diaper rash that will not go away.  Oh it fades and almost clears up only to rear it's ugly face the next day.  I don't know what's causing it, or why it won't completely clear up but my poor baby is not very happy about it.  In fact, it makes diaper changing time even more like a wrestling match.  We've tried 2 different types of Desitin, Butt Paste, even vasaline and of course baby powder but none seem to work.  After much advice from friends and family, here was our evening routine tonight...

Warm bath with baking soda. Check.
Soapy water to clean up. Check.
Air dry around the house for 30 min. Check.  (This was Aaron's favorite part.)
Powdered bottom with burnt flour. Check. (Weird but I hear it works.)

Now we keep our fingers crossed that at least one of these things will help because it's flared up again worse than it has been.  I just want that cute little tush back and a happy baby to go with it!

The Color Purple

Why has our blog changed to such a vibrant shade of purple?  Isn't it a little girly for a one woman family?  Is it in honor of the acclaimed Novel or movie?  NO. Is it to signify Royalty or Nobility? NO. Is it simply because I happen to like the color purple? NO. (Although I do.)

It is in honor of my youngest sister going away to college in 9 DAYS to K-State!!!!  Yay!!  Go Wildcats!!!  While we will all miss her dearly, I am very proud to see her go and wish her the best as she goes through Rush and begins a new chapter in her life.  The world of photography awaits you Katie.  You are going to do great!

Looks like we'll be making a trip to Manhattan, KS sometime in the near future...

2nd Hair Cut

Not nearly as traumatic as the first one...but still sad to see the curls go...

Does a mom ever get enough of the baby phase?  I'm glad another is on the way because he is growing way too fast.

To Eat or Not to Eat...

I LOVE FOOD!  Glad to not be on WW right now, hehehe....

It's funny how pregnancies can differ.  It seems my cravings or food aversions are quite different from last time around.  For instance, I have NO problem with BBQ this time around - at least for now, whereas last time I would have been on the verge of puking when I passed Jack Stack on the way to work.  I craved tacos like they were the only food on the planet when I was pregnant with Aaron.  I would go get the good old deep fried - beef tacos almost 3 times a week on my lunch breaks.  I could really care less about Mexican this time.  I still like it, but I could live without it.  I'm wondering what is going to be the major craving this time.

I am starting to crave beef again.  I think it's just my body's way of telling me I need more Iron....Especially when I forget to take my prenate... On the way home from the lake last weekend I desperatly wanted pot roast.  It was the only thing that sounded appealing.  And so my wonderful hubby stopped at Ryan's which incrediablly had none other but pot roast on thier buffet!

The best so far though is the craving that woke me up the other morning.  I was laying in bed in that half sleep state and dreaming of Auntie Anne's Pretzles.  For those of you who have never tried them, they are not like ball park soft pretzels.  They have a hint of sweetness to them and are COVERED in butter and simply melt in your mouth.  I was actually drooling.  It's been probably years since I've had them at the great mall.  I used to get them on my break when I worked at Old Navy.  So I decided that I could either drive to Olathe and get one or I could attempt to make them at home.  I went straight for the computer, still in my pjs, and looked up how to make Auntie Anne's pretzels.  I was in luck...I found an excellent recipe and had all of the ingredients except for real butter.  (All I had was that low fat junk that I used to eat on WW.)  So...I made a trip to Wal-mart for some other items too, but mostly because I didn't think they would be the same in imitation butter.  This is my masterpiece...

In case you are wondering - it was FABULOUS!  And I made so many that I froze them and can now nuke them in the microwave at will although they were best fresh.  They are really good with cheese sauce too...boy I'm bad....  I'm going to need WW for sure when this baby is born!
