Smelly Ellie and her side kick Aaron Poo

I've dealt with just about every kind of nasty thing that can come from dogs and babies now and I have to say that if you want to practice for parenthood a dog/puppy really is a great idea.  Sure they aren't exactly the same - you can't leave your baby locked in a kennel for 8 hours or put a diaper on your dog until it's potty trained, but having a dog first can prepare you for the more dirty parts of parenting.  It seems I can handle almost any kind of bodily waste that comes from Aaron.  I attribute this to having to take care of Ellie for 7 years prior to Aaron's existence.  Nowadays if it's from Ellie my gag reflex takes over and I am powerless to stop it.  Dealing with baby poop and spit up and slobber is a breeze compared to dog poop, up-chuck, and drool.

The other day Ellie got sick because of something that she ate (it looked like marshmallows) and proceeded to throw up in our bedroom.  Twice. As I was using a washcloth to pick up the chunks and flush them down the toilet I could not stop gagging.  I was nervous to breath through my nose for fear of the nasty smell and afraid to breath through my mouth for fear of tasting it, so I held my breath while I scrubbed up the spots.  Not more than an hour later, Aaron had a massive poopy diaper.  When I went to change it, he decided to "explore" down there and ended up with a wad of poo in his hands!  I had to act quick before they made it to his mouth so I grabbed a wipe and started cleaning it off his hands - getting it on me in the process.  Sure it smelled gross but somehow I managed to get him all cleaned up and sanitized without a single gag reflex!  How human waste is any better than dog waste is beyond me but seriously - whoever said it's different when it's your own kid was exactly right.

Motivation Please

Call me crazy but I think Aaron is getting the hang of "Arms Up."  Don't know if it's the written words or just the spoken, but we've caught him 3 times now raising his arms while watching his DVD.  Too cute!

Seems I haven't blogged a lot lately.  I'm caught up in this TV series from 2002 called Jeremiah.  TV series on Netflix are bad for me.  I just keep wanting to sit and watch them.  The most productive part of my day SHOULD be the morning since I have a neat little schedule down for Aaron and it offers me time to get things done.  In the afternoon I usually have plans for the gym and hanging out with Esther.  My house isn't really destroyed, just could use a little more love I think.  Hoping this Friday's party will help get me in gear.  I had all these house projects in my head when I left work...I've only barely scratched the surface so far!  But I guess I can't say that I've been entirely lazy - I have been cooking up a storm...well baking actually.  Still, even that has slowed these days.

I'm just feeling guilty because while my hubby is working 12 hour shifts for FREE (ok so they are clinicals...) I'm watching TV at home.  Something is NOT right about this picture!  When this series is over (2 more episodes) I'm going on a TV strike for a week.  We'll see how much I get done then!
***Ok I've finished - the strike starts Monday...

Curious Aaron wants to crawl

Aaron has just about mastered how to go from a sitting position to a poised and ready tummy position.  He just can't move anywhere after that!  I was cleaning his room up and set him on the floor (sitting) with some of his toys.  A few minutes go by and I notice he's on his belly.  No fear. No tears.  So I set him back up again and continued cleaning.  Again he's back on his belly.  This time I let him stay there since he didn't seem bothered by it.  He just stared and "talked" to Curious George on the bottom shelf of his book shelf.  I set him up a third time only to find him in the same position again.  He really wants to go!

In other news... he rolled over yesterday at the Heintzelman's house.  I was helping fold laundry and the next thing I know he's gone from his tummy to his back.  Way to go Aaron!

Like mom or dad?

I find it hilarious that my family thinks Aaron looks like John and John's family thinks he looks like me!  I think he is perfect blend of us both.  You decide...

Like father, like son

Outgrowing more than clothes

Aaron has been feeling much better now.  No more fevers and the cough is going away.  Still have a bubbly, snotty, runny, nose but what little kid doesn't?!

This week we've managed to outgrow two near and dear items of Aarons...the Bumbo and the Tub Sling/Seat. I guess it's not so much that he doesn't fit in them anymore, rather that he doesn't really need them. He's sitting so well on his own now that it won't be long before he won't even need the Boppy for counter balance. He loves to play sitting up. (If only he liked playing on his tummy as much - he might actually start crawling soon.)

Sitting in the living room watching his Your Baby Can Read DVD. (You can tell he's entranced!)

Sitting in the Bathtub with no help!

No Bumbo at the table anymore.  Daddy let him sit at the table like a big boy while we ate lunch.

He's cute even when he gets mad that we aren't paying attention to him!

Day 4...

of the nasty coughing and runny nose. It's intensified again and here I am, 6:30 in the morning, pumping because Aaron isn't hungry, waiting for John to get back with the humidifier to hopefully help Aaron cough up that mucus. He's still getting a mild grade fever off and on but never quite enough to really get concerned. It just stinks hearing him cough all night long. I know he's not sleeping well. I just rocked him for almost an hour just to get him to go back to bed. I really hope he feels better soon.

My little sicky

Two nights ago, while John was still working his night shifts, Aaron starting getting a little cold. He was coughing a little and had a runny nose. Yesterday he had a little fever and the other symptoms had increased, plus he now has runny, goopy eyes. I know it's probably just a little cold that will go away in time but it is so sad to see him not feeling well. I just want to hold him and make it go away. He seems to be doing a little better today. No fever at least. If it didn't get better we were going to take him to the walk in clinic at our pediatricians office. He seems content to jump in his jumper right now as I am typing though! I think he'll be alright.

On a side note, when I get my scan disk back I'll have some more pics to post! It's been a while since I've posted any...

Pajama Party

We're thinking of starting a tradition in my family - pajama day on New Year's Day! We had a great time. Aaron and I went over in our fleece jammies to hang out for the afternoon. Nanny and Papa, Grandma Great, and Chelsee and Jay were all there too. Aunt Katie was for a while but she had to go to work in the afternoon.

We played several games of Hand and Foot, ate lots of goodies throughout the day, then had dinner at about 5:30. It was nice to relax and enjoy each other's company. Nanny, Aunt Chelsee, and Grandma Great all got to feed Aaron pears! He did so well! He took three naps in his pack and play upstairs in Nanny and Papa's bedroom and was in a good mood most of the day.

I had to pick up some dog food on the way home and stopped at Price Chopper. It wasn't until I was headed inside with Aaron's big ol' carrier that I realized I was still in my pajamas...and slippers! They weren't the kind that could mistaken for sweats - they were bright blue fleece pajama bottoms! Oh well. To top it off, I lost my wallet - it fell out of my coat. The security guard had to help me find it. It was on the floor by the carts and luckily nothing was missing.

Needless to say, it was a nice way to start off the new year!
